  • Examine current needs and trends in out-of-school time
  • Identify indicators of high-quality out-of-school time programming
  • Gain tools and strategies for program planning and staff development

Weekend Institute: Teaching and Learning in Out-of-School Time (ED561)

Examine and put into practice latest research from the field, gold standards for quality, techniques and methods, and authentic demonstrations of learning.

Graduate Track: Explore and apply theories of learning, analyze new directions in the field, investigate systemic quality improvement efforts, and research your key area of interest

Undergraduate Track: Identify gold standards for quality, go deeper with concepts of youth voice and choice, and get hands-on experience with teaching methods for out-of-school time learning

Continue the learning with four online follow-up assignments, grounding theory in applied practice at your site, with your programs.

Who:

Directors, administrators, coordinators, lead teachers, education majors, graduate students, and others interested in non-formal education

What:

Three-credit institute (graduate or undergraduate), three days plus 4 online follow-ups. Due dates: August 17, August 24, October 2, and October 16

When:

July 24, 2009, 10:00 am – 7:00 pm

July 26, 2009, 8:00 am – 1:00 pm
